The Pocket Theater announces another “extra” program to be presented on Sunday, September 6, at 3:00
pm. Ruth and Ray Liebau will present Songs You Forgot You Remembered. They are best known
to Pocket Theater attendees for their roles in the success of Fiddler On The Roof. Ruth
played the role of Golde, and Ray was the musical director. They met at Florida State in
1956, and Ruth says they are going to leep making music together until they get it right. They
currently perform each Wednesday at The Caring Place in Hot Springs.
Ruth has been singing since her teen years, majored in voice, and has had a number of lead roles in
musical theater and opera. She is a recitalist and has sung with combos and big bands, and was the
soprano soloist in Verdi’s requiem with the Mississippi Symphony. She did two summers of theater
in the round at Hyannis, Massachusetts.
Ray has been playing the piano since he was four, and retired from his teaching career after thirty
years at Ole Miss. Over his lifetime he has accumulated numerous honors and accolades, but none
greater than being chosen the outstanding teacher at Ole Miss in 1993. Some of his compositions and
arrangements have been performed in Carnegie Hall and in Europe. One of his arrangements was placed
on YouTube, and since has been been performed in New Zealand.
Adding greatly to the program will be Booker “Crutch” Crutchfield on bass and Jay Payette on drums.
Crutch is familiar to folks who visit the Arlington Hotel Lounge on the weekends. Jay is a sought-
after percussionist who has his own group, The Real Thing.
