On Saturday, November 30, 2002, volunteers from the Pocket Theatre joined volunteers from some of the other non-profit organizations in the Hot Springs area to put on ArtBlast 2002! The purpose of ArtBlast is to expose kids to the arts in a fun and entertaining way, hopefully building a love for the arts the children will carry into future life. It was a little hectic with the hundreds of kids that participated in this years ArtBlast, but we had a lot of fun!

From The Sentinel-Record:

The ArtBlast 2002 children's art festival will be held at the Hot Springs Civic & Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30. Nine local nonprofit art organization will pool resources to provide a variety of visual and performing art activities for children over this Thanksgiving Day weekend. ArtBlast 2002 begins at 10 a.m. with a treasure hunt, let by the Arts cooperative Team. Kids can pick up their treasure hunt map at the civic center and begin the trek through all the festivities.

Presented in a casual, festive atmosphere, ArtBlast 2002 will offer a welcome break from the traditional holiday shopping frenzy. Young people ages 4 to 18, and their families, will find adventure and fun during the family oriented afternoon," a press release states.

Be sure to wear old clothes for The Pocket Theatre's Magic of the Theater, where stage crews will help young designers paint faces, spray hair and make Styrofoam props.
